William Shatner, Sarah Palin & Dr. Dalvir Pannu

I was watching The Late Night show with Conan O’Brien the other night and was immensely entertained with William Shatner’s poetic take-off on Sarah Palin’s speech. I had been an avid follower of “Captain Kirk’s” voyages since I was a kid and have a great admiration for this guy who was able to evolve as an actor through the years. And although Shatner’s career hasn’t always been that hot & suffered typecasting badly after Star Trek and his one attempt at a TV Cop series, he really reinvented himself with Boston Legal. So naturally, being interviewed by his team at the “Heartbeat of America” show was not just a pleasure but an honor as well. The experience was so surreal that I felt I had gone where no man had gone before! Check out the video clips below;

If the aligners don’t fit…

Dr, Pannu,

I tried to put in my second upper Invisalign tray tonight and I can’t get it in.  I’m starting to wonder if there’s something not right with the aligner itself. I am going to leave my first one in over night. Please let me know what to do when you get a chance.
Thank you!
C from Fremont
P.S. I’m not having problems with the bottom aligners. They fit fine.

Dear C,

Due to your severe crowding, this is expected every time you change the upper aligners for the first few months. Manufacturing defects are extremely rare in Invisalign aligners.

I recommend using a mirror to guide you in the insertion of your aligners since there’s a great chance that you may be pressing the back portion of the aligners in the wrong areas.

Try to insert from different possible angles by putting it in the front teeth (anteriors) first. Look in the mirror if the back edge of the aligner is dangling towards the palate or the cheeks, and then push the back part of the aligner towards the proper seating.

If that doesn’t work still, insert the left back first, and keep on pressing it towards the anterior (front teeth), making the full arch of the aligner seat onto the full arch of the teeth… If that doesn’t work, do the opposite and start from the right back part.

Different arches have different angles for easy insertion/removal. Hence this process is not the same for all the patients. But believe me; it gets really easy after you get the hang of doing it.

If you have tried everything possible but still have difficulties then please come to the office and I shall help you put it on. After using some series of aligners, this process will become a piece of cake for you.

Dental Implant Treatments: To travel or not to travel?

Mrs. P from Fremont, California

“Hello Dr. Pannu! Is there a website where I can get more info on implants? Also, does Delta cover this treatment? How expensive is an implant treatment? I have heard in the past that implants are so expensive that some people opt to go to India to acquire such treatment. I think some doctors there have devised a “Dental Tourism Program” which incorporates implants, whitening and cosmetic dentistry treatments while giving patients the ability to enjoy their trip and do lots of shopping and sight seeing and then come back with a beautiful smile and save a fortune. Is this true? Can you enlighten me more about this concern? Thanks for any help or suggestion.”

Dr. Pannu Says –

“You can get complete information about dental implants here:

These sites include actual patient case reports representing different scenarios.”

“Dental implants are covered quite frequently these days by insurance companies if preauthorized appropriately. If not, there are no-interest-long-term payment plans available. The best method to replace the missing teeth is to get dental implants because they are a lot easier on the adjacent natural teeth as opposed to attaching a bridge. Also they provide much more stability and retention in fully edentulous (denture) cases.”

“Yes, lots of people go to India, Mexico, Russia and other countries to get such procedures done for a lesser cost. Just make sure to have plenty of time on hand during such trip, as you don’t want a rush-job on permanent procedures like these. You also have to take into consideration that there is healing time involved which may affect the overall experience and quality of your trip. It is also extremely beneficial and necessary to coordinate the treatment plan between the doctor treating you in a foreign country and your family dentist in the USA, as such major procedures would require meticulous post-operative follow-up and maintenance.”

Can I shorten the time frame of my Invisalign use?

Asked by VRK from Fremont, California

“Hello Dr. Pannu! I am currently on my 2nd set of Invisalign aligners.  I feel tight only on the 1st day or so after I start using a new set, and after that, I don’t feel a lot of pull.  I am wondering if instead of wearing each set for 2 weeks, if I can change sets every 10 days or so.  That could make the total treatment period much shorter.  Would that be a good idea?  Please let me know. Thanks!”

 Dr. Pannu:

“It’s common to feel more tightness for the first two/three days whenever a person starts on the new aligners. However you can’t decrease the total time frame per aligner. Even though you don’t feel the pressure after few days of wear, it doesn’t mean that it is not working. You need to give proper time for the root to move as well along with the crown portion of the tooth.”

Are Invisaligners sharp on the gums?

Frequently Asked Question for the Day:
“I am concerned about the pain of the aligners. Are they sharp on the gums? I had braces in my teens , I am now 39 and my teeth have shifted. Will they work for me at my age and how loose will my teeth feel when I take them out to eat or drink. I feel weird about that . Any input would be appreciated. ” – From Ms. M
Dr. Pannu:
“Invisalign aligners have minimal contact to the gums so you shouldn’t experience any gum irritation. Dental hygienists are keen on recommending this product. Your case belongs to the typical age group for Invisalign treatment. It’s never late to get started on Invisalign, as long as the periodontal (jaw bone) health allows. You may experience a little pulling pressure whenever you attempt to remove them. Overall feel should improve after two or three days. Click here more information and actual patient shots”

Invisalign Attachments hidden for a model

Some celebrities, models and famous people like Jessa Lynne, our patient above, are usually hesitant to get cosmetic dental treatments because of the fact that braces and some Invisalign procedures do not mix well with being in front of the camera and facing a lot of people. Pannu Dental Services offer Lingual (inside) attachments that are concealed and are constructed in such a way that the brackets are strategically placed inside. The Invisalign treatment alone is already undetectable. Invisalign with Lingual attachments are even more indistinguishable which makes it the best option for famous personalities so they can confidently flash their best smile on and off cam at all times.
