I was watching The Late Night show with Conan O’Brien the other night and was immensely entertained with William Shatner’s poetic take-off on Sarah Palin’s speech. I had been an avid follower of “Captain Kirk’s” voyages since I was a kid and have a great admiration for this guy who was able to evolve as an actor through the years. And although Shatner’s career hasn’t always been that hot & suffered typecasting badly after Star Trek and his one attempt at a TV Cop series, he really reinvented himself with Boston Legal. So naturally, being interviewed by his team at the “Heartbeat of America” show was not just a pleasure but an honor as well. The experience was so surreal that I felt I had gone where no man had gone before! Check out the video clips below;

“I had some previous work done by another dentist and I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the work.  I had two teeth missing on the bottom, and my gums and teeth were poorly aligned.
In Sept. of 2007, Dr. Pannu invited me to his office to see what he could do.  It was a great decision to take up his offer.  I had reservations about anyone working on my teeth again, as my previous Dr. left me a little skeptical, but Dr. Pannu’s knowledge and professionalism reassured me that I was in the right place.
He had to fill all 6 front teeth and redo the veneer on the top, do two implants on the bottom, and invisialign the bottom teeth.  He even re-sculptured my gums to make sure the teeth were aligned perfectly…and they are now!

Tetracyline stains treated at Pannu Dental Care

Annie is a young beautiful girl from Fremont who was always hesitant to smile due to stained teeth. She had extremly dark stains from tetracyline antibiotic.  It’s a fairly powerful antibiotic that kills a broad spectrum of bacteria, and it can be life-saving. However, when it is taken while teeth are forming, it deposits in the dentin and enamel of the teeth and creates a permanent gray or brown stain. It can be a uniform discoloration of the entire tooth or can occur in the form of horizontal bands of stain of varying intensity. They can range from mild to very dark.

Porcelain veneer are the treatment of choice for tetracycline stains. But you really need an expert <a href=”http://www.pannudental.com” target=”_blank”>cosmetic dentist—these stains are different from any other in that they are very deep in the tooth, and to cover them up requires a mastery of color, translucency, and opacity.

Porcelain crown change the smile of this San Jose gentleman

Mr. SS had severe abrasion/erosion of enamel. Porcelain crowns were the treatment of choice.  The result is a very aesthetic smile.

Tooth Erosion and abrasion are terms which refer to the loss of external tooth structure(enamel), but erosion means loss of the tooth structure by means of chemical agents and abrasion due to mechanical friction of the tooth structure with any external agent.

Most common agents which cause tooth erosion are aerated/carbonated drinks such as soft drinks which are not usually soft on the tooth,Gastric juices when regurgitated into the oral cavity in case of severe vomiting, some citric juices, wine also has been seen to cause erosion due to its low pH, Chlorine mixed in swimming pools, sugars which on fermenting turn into acid and erode the tooth. At Pannu Dental Care we do comprehensive exam for all patients and help to treat abrasion and erosion at early stages.

BL Castro Valley , a professional horse rider travelled far to accomplish the complex dental treatment. She had two front teeth missing, and was not happy with the previous prosthesis. The space was extremely narrow to insert the implants. All other anterior teeth were discolored and chipped. A comprehensive treatment plan involved bone grafts, dental implants, veneers and crowns.  The surgical and restorative  phases of treatment were performed by Dalvir Pannu DDS at the Fremont office of Pannu Dental Care.

Fluorosis : Cosmetic Veneers Brightens Smile

Dental fluorosis is a health condition caused by an overdose of fluoride. In its severe form it is characterized by black and brown stains, as well as cracking and pitting of the teeth.

Dental fluorosis was first reported by two dentists in 1916 . By 1931 there was extreme concern about what was called ‘Colorado Brown Stain’ and ‘Texas Teeth’. It is now called ‘dental fluorosis’. In that year three independent groups of scientists showed conclusively that the areas with this condition had high levels of fluoride in their water. Dental fluorosis occurs because of the excessive intake of fluoride either through fluoride in the water supply, naturally occurring or added to it; or through other sources. The damage in tooth development occurs between the ages of 6 months to 5 years, from the overexposure to fluoride. Teeth are generally composed of hydroxyapatite and carbonated hydroxyapatite; when fluoride is present, fluorapatite is created. Excessive fluoride can cause yellowing of teeth, white spots, and pitting or mottling of enamel. Fluorosis cannot occur once the tooth has erupted into the oral cavity. At this point, fluorapatite is beneficial because it is more resistant to dissolution by acids (demineralization).

Our patient Ms. KD, who had stains on her teeth caused by fluorosis could smile a whole lot better after getting veneers.

Dark Tetracycline Staining can also be treated with Cosmetic Dentistry

Tetracycline is a fairly powerful antibiotic that is used in cases of several bacterial infections. However, if it is taken while teeth are in forming stage,  it deposits in the dentin and enamel of the teeth and creates a permanent gray or brown stain . These stain can be mild to very dark in color.

 

Tom visited our office complaining of stained teeth due to tetracycline. After the treatment, he now he has a new reason to smile everyday with his bright new smile.
